    KEEP MECKLENBURG BEAUTIFUL:
    CANDIDATES PLEDGE TO REMOVE CAMPAIGN SIGNS

    Charlotte, NC – Fifty-seven candidates for office in Mecklenburg County have signed pledge forms – a commitment to remove their campaign signs after the general election on November 4, 2008.

    While campaign sign regulations vary depending on the city or town, the signs often become unsightly litter after an election. Mecklenburg County and Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful solicited commitments from candidates, asking them to remove their signs within a designated time period after ballots are cast and the campaigning is finished.

    The following candidates have signed the forms:

    Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful Inc. Its primary focus is the County's unincorporated areas and towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville. The organization conducts an annual litter index and works to engage the community to take greater responsibility for their environment.
