MECKLENBURG COUNTY WINS A SILVER TELLY AWARD AND OTHER NATIONAL HONORS |

Charlotte, NC – Mecklenburg County has won eight more Telly awards for its innovative infotainment program "The Mecklenburgers," including its first Silver Award.
The Telly Awards are given internationally to the best television and film programs. Since its debut season in 2004, The Mecklenburgers has scored a total of 28 Telly awards.
The Silver Award, the highest honor, was won by the episode called "Park Raving Mad." The "Concert for Nutritional Regimen" episode was the winner of four bronze statues, including "Best Use of Music." Most of the music for The Mecklenburgers is written and performed by Bill Carroll of the County's Public Service & Information Department.
Mecklenburg County also won 13 Achievement Awards granted by the National Association of Counties (NACO). The Achievement Awards Program is a non-competitive program that recognizes counties for improving the management of and services provided by county government. Park and Recreation won seven awards. Winners included the 2007 U. S. Kayak Polo Nationals, Imagination Station, Canada Geese Program, Meck-SI and Fit City for Fit Families Child Development Center Healthy Start Program. The Board of County Commissioners recognized six of the winners at its July meeting and will recognize the other at its August 5 meeting.
And the County's Public Service & Information Department won nine awards from the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO). Among the winning entries was the County's most requested publication, called Inside Mecklenburg, the County's Spanish Language program Salud y Vida and The Mecklenburgers. The awards were given out at the organization's annual meeting in Kansas City on July 10. |
